Equestrian Competitions

Despite a population of less than 900 residents, Middleburg plays host to a number of prestigious equestrian events throughout the year. Along with the thundering hooves of each event’s equine athletes, attendees enjoy terrier races, shopping, hat contests, tailgate parties and lasting memories.

MIDDLEBURG SPRING RACES

Virginia’s oldest steeplechase draws thousands of race fans to Glenwood Park every third Saturday in April. What began as a local affair in 1911 has become a world-class racing event celebrating the country’s most athletic thoroughbreds.

Presented by Kwame Onwuachi, this four-day event celebrates diversity in the hospitality community. Onwuachi is a James Beard ward-winning chef and is highly reconcognized by Esquire Magazine, Forbes 30 under 30, Time’s 100 Next List and more. In partnership with Food & Wine and Sheila Johnson, he brings his Afro-Carribean culture and culinary heritage to this first-of-its-kind event. Enjoy presentations, tastings, dinner and thought-provoking discussions with the industry’s top chefs, sommeliers and leaders. Past panel guests include Carla Hall, Nina Compton, Carlton McCoy, Mashama Bailey, Rodney Scott, Gregory Gourdet, Tavel Bristol-Joseph and Pierre Thiam.

The Middleburg Film Festival offers four days of fantastic films throughout the village of Middleburg. Founded by Sheila Johnson and debuting just after Salamander Middleburg opened, Middleburg is hailed as one of the top film festival destinations in the world. The event serves as a launching pad for exciting new artists as well as a showcase for the year’s Oscar frontrunners.

Residences at Salamander ownership provides access to the carefully curated selection of narrative and documentary films in intimate theater environments followed by fascinating talk-back sessions with world-renowned filmmakers and actors.
